Trauma Informed Care

Trauma is far more common than most organisations realise, and it shapes how people respond to services, relationships, and everyday interactions in ways that aren't always obvious. Our Trauma-Informed Care training helps staff understand how trauma shows up in the people they work with, and gives them the practical skills to adapt their approach so that services support recovery rather than risk causing further harm.

Trauma-informed care is an approach to service delivery that recognises how widespread trauma is, and adapts practice, environments, and relationships to avoid causing further harm while supporting recovery and resilience.

Why this matters

Without trauma awareness, well-intentioned practice can still land badly. A rushed appointment, an inflexible process, or a poorly worded letter can all trigger a trauma response and undermine trust in a service. Staff working with trauma-affected people also carry a hidden load themselves, and organisations that don't build trauma awareness into everyday practice often see this show up as burnout, high turnover, or breakdowns in the relationships services depend on. Trauma-informed care isn't an add-on; it's a shift in how an organisation understands the people it works with and the people who do that work.

Who it’s for

This work is suited to frontline staff, managers, and whole organisations working with people who may have experienced trauma including services in social care, education, health, housing, and the wider third sector. It can be delivered as an introduction for staff new to trauma-informed practice, or as a refresher and deepening session for those with some existing awareness.
