WHAT IS MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING?
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based therapeutic approach to supporting change and is used in a variety of areas and specialities such as addictions, healthcare, education and criminal justice.
It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion. It pays particular attention to the language of change and recognises the importance of increasing self-efficacy within our clients.
To learn more about MI you can attend one of our courses, visit the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers Website (MINT) or you can conduct a free hour-long MI insight course online courtesy of Public Health England, Steve Rollnick and the BMJ.
